The London 2012 Olympics are going to be a wonderful and exciting event for everyone all over the World to enjoy. Here at BCPS we have already started preparing for them.
Firstly we have joined the “Olympic Get Set Network”. It is a fabulous site which offers a host of interactive online and offline resources and ideas. We plan to use many of these resources in the coming weeks and months prior to the London 2012 Olympics.
At BCPS we have taken a keen interest in
the Olympics and the Olympic ideals. We are embracing the Olympic and Paralympic values as the Olympic and Paralympic Games are about much more than sporting excellence. Underpinning the Games is the philosophy of Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Modern Olympic Movement.
He saw in the Games an ideal opportunity to develop a set of universal principles – or Values – that could be applied to education and to society as a whole, as well as to sport itself.
It takes more than being a brilliant sports man or woman to become an Olympian or Paralympian. Top class athletes try to live according to a set of beliefs and ideas that help them to be the best they can be, and to respect other competitors. These are called the Olympic and Paralympic Values:
Olympic Values
- friendship
- respect
- excellence
Paralympic Values
- determination
- courage
- equality
- inspiration
These Values can help all of us live as best we can, achieving our personal ambitions and dreams without deliberately hurting other people.
We have also adopted two countries to support throughout the Olympic and Paralympic games. In the Olympic Games we are going to support ARGENTINA. In the Paralympics we will be supporting JAPAN.
