Learning a foreign language is fun, so lessons at BCPS are very active and lively. Multimedia plays a large part in our French and Spanish lessons. Pupils sing songs, play games, act out role plays, watch videos, use interactive software, as well as doing more traditional reading, writing and grammar to help them learn and practise their language skills.
Trips
There is a regular trip to the Europa Centre in Year 5 when the boys put their language skills to the test! Some of our students views:
“Lots of fun!”
“Helps you to speak French because everything is in French”.
Cultural Awareness
Throughout their years at BCPS, the boys experience a series of lessons about the French and Spanish culture. They will learn about festivals, experience culinary specialities and learn key facts about France or Spain, as it is important for the boys to contextualise the new language they are learning.
Recent Events
Currently this year the students have enjoyed a number of French activities. These have included the following:
Une partie de foot
In preparation for the World Cup 2010 Year 5 have been looking at football in a new way. They have learnt many different footballing words and phrases in French. This allowed them to play a game communicating only in French which was challenging but also a lot of fun.
"Passe le balle!" "Tire . . ."
"Penalty!!" "But!!!" Touche. "Lance le balle . . . "
"la Chenille qui a faim" - The Very Hungry Caterpillar
