How to be a writer

authortalk

Early in the term, Year 5 had the opportunity to visit John Lyon School and be part of a very special event. Ian Whybrow, a highly successful author, was delivering a talk all about how he became a successful writer.

Before the trip, the boys were able to peruse a list of books that would be available to purchase on the day. These included: Meerkat Madness, Muckabout School and Little Wolf’s Book of Badness.

As the Buckingham Prep boys arrived early and had pre-ordered their books, they all had the chance to have a one-to-one chat with Mr Whybrow as he signed their books.

When delivering his talk, Mr Whybrow was very humble and spoke of how minor events in his life had given him the inspiration for some of his stories. The hall erupted with laughter every few minutes and there were plenty of questions at the end.

Do you know where he got the idea for ‘Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs’? Year 5 can help you if not.
