Buckingham Preparatory School has a thriving Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (P.T.F.A). Over the last few years, the PTFA has been actively involved in organising annual events such as the Charismas fair, Bollywood night, Summer fete etc. to name a few. The purpose of these events is twofold – give an opportunity to the boys to join in exciting activities with their friends and families as well as to raise funds for all members of the school community. So far, the funds raised have been fittingly used towards the purchase of school pianos, judo mats, a folding stage, laptops and interactive whiteboards for every class; thereby enriching the experience of the boys at the school.
In addition to raising funds, the PTFA now also provides a healthy forum where parents, staff and friends of BPS can come together to share views, discuss ideas and organise exciting events to promote further growth and development across the whole school. The PTFA recognises the importance of social media sites in shaping its work and as such has started using BPS Facebook page and Twitter for reaching out to parents and committee members.
The work of PTFA is coordinated by an Executive Committee, which is made up of class representatives from each year group, members of the committee, members of staff (including the Head teacher) and friends of BCPS. This committee meets three times in a year -once in each term. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place in October of each year and all parents are warmly invited. We encourage the new parents to attend the AGM and acquaint themselves with the work of the association. Most new parents at BPS actively support PTFA by either becoming a committee member or volunteering at major events.
Following is the list of events held annually:
The Charismas Fair is held usually in the first week of December during the school hours. With an aim to sprinkle some magic dust as boys being their countdown to Christmas – the PTFA organises an entertainer to come to school and captivate the boys with the magic tricks and games during the morning hours. In the afternoon, members of PTFA transform the school hall into a vibrant fete arena with a variety of stall selling gift items, food, cakes and hot chocolate along with games, music and not to mention Santa’s grotto- a must for all boys as it’s an opportunity for them to find out which one of their teachers has miraculously transformed into a Santa….
Bollywood night is a hugely successful event organised by PTFA and usually held in the spring term of each year.
Second Hand School Uniform Sale
Second hand school uniforms are sold at the summer fete as well as the Christmas Fair. Parents can buy all items of school uniforms in good/very good condition at a cheaper and reasonable price on these days.
The BPS Summer Fete takes place on a Saturday, usually in the month of June. Marking a celebration of the fantastic year the boys have had at school, the event is a major fund raiser for the PTFA. Along with mouth watering food and drinks there’s plenty for the boys to indulge in from pocket money stalls, second hand books and toys, ping pong, beat the goalie, wet sponge and many more activities.
