A ‘Chic’ Week For Our Reception Students

Posted: 27th May 2021

This has been a very busy week in Reception.  On Wednesday we had our class assembly and have been busy preparing for the special day.  Our theme linked into our topic this half term which has been all about food.  The boys worked hard to learn their lines, paint pictures of their favourite foods and learn two poems with actions.  We were very keen to impress our parents at home and Mrs Hollis in school.  Mrs Stoneman was very proud of the boys for performing so well.

Wednesday also saw the arrival of some cute 3-week-old chicks to our school.  All the children in Pre-School to Year 2 had a chance to see and hold a chick.  It was hard to contain our excitement and keep quiet so that we didn’t scare them when we were holding them!  We had a super discussion about chicks and their lifecycle.  We made some observational drawings and were able to talk about how chickens provide some of us with eggs to eat.

This week in English our work has focussed on Elmer the Elephant.  We have described him, compared him to a real elephant and learnt facts about elephants.  In Maths we have been practising our number bonds.

On Friday we had the opportunity to spend time with our Year 6 Buddies.  Miss Thompson and Mrs Stoneman arranged rotating activities in the playground, and it was a good chance for the Reception and Year 6 children to interact and learn from each other.  A great fun time was had by all!
