Wellbeing at the forefront of Buckingham minds

Posted: 7th October 2018

As our boys approach their final years of schooling with us and important school exams, we should all be aware of the stresses they are under. It is also important for the boys to be aware of this and to be equipped with methods of coping with anxiety and stress. As a school we believe it is our duty to help develop resilience in our boys and the skills needed to manage current and future life challenges. To support us with this aim, we invited Mr Pat Capel, a human givens therapist, to come into school to do some workshops with Years 5 and 6.

Human givens therapists use a variety of up-to-date, proven psychological methods and techniques focused on problem solving and developing new life skills to help individuals maintain a healthy mental balance. The workshops involved a variety of relaxation techniques alongside lots of discussion about how to accept and view potential challenges in life and how to recognise and deal with stresses. All the boys came away from the workshops with a positive outlook on upcoming challenges and with some clear strategies for how they might deal with these.
