Observing The Nature Around Us

Posted: 28th April 2021

As the Science topic for this term in Year 3 is Plants, what better way to begin our learning but to take a walk around the school grounds and local area to observe plants growing in their natural environment?

Taking advantage of the beautiful weather to explore the ‘outdoor classroom’ allowed the boys to use magnifying glasses to take a closer look at a range of flowering plants, weeds and trees and noting their features on sketches.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed the walk and discussions about their observations; this activity gave rise to many wonderings and questions that we will be seeking answers to while we continue our studies on Plants this term.

Are the petals joined or are they separate? Why is this leaf covered with bugs? Why are some leaves very large and others are tiny?
