EQI Inspection Report 2017
In our Pre Prep department, we give boys aged 5-7 the confidence to achieve in all areas of school life and to enjoy their learning; whilst placing a strong emphasis on early developments, we have high expectations and achieve excellent academic results.
From the start of their school career, children are supported as individuals – developing at their own pace, nurtured and supported by caring, professional staff. We are structured in such a way as to enable all children to fulfil their potential within a positive, happy and secure environment.
As an academically driven school we have exemption from the Government scripted learning and development requirements of the EYFS. This has allowed us to use our own bespoke higher level curriculum in both English and Mathematics which is based on the levels of achievement we know our children are capable of. In Reception we use the skills the children have built on in Pre-School from following our bespoke curriculum, and continue to extend these through our bespoke Reception years’ curriculum, to work at an greatly advanced level in both English and Mathematics. By building advanced skills for English and Mathematics early on, it provides our boys with the confidence and ability to make both accelerated and a greater depth of progress and thus to take part in more advanced activities in these areas. By the end of Reception the expectation is that all of our boys will be working well above national expectations, can read and write independently, and will be competent to complete a range of structured maths activities, which will put them at an advantage when tackling the KS1 curriculum.
Our classes are small and nurturing with no more than 18 boys; these are supervised by a both a teacher and a teaching assistant. We provide a broad curriculum with French, Music, Sport and Art taught by specialist teachers. Promoting the self-confidence and self-esteem of our boys within a happy and caring atmosphere is central to the teaching and learning in our Pre Prep.
The school prides itself on the pastoral care it provides. Small classes, and a relatively small school population, ensure that staff know the boys individually and can monitor their behaviour and academic progress easily.
Pre Prep enjoys numerous outings to enrich learning during the school year and many after-school clubs and activities are on offer to appeal to a variety of interests.
We would be delighted to meet you so that you can experience first-hand what we have to offer your child.
