Year 1 and the Victorian wash day

Posted: 7th March 2019

On Wednesday 6th March, Year 1 went on a trip to Headstone Manor Museum in Harrow.  They participated in a workshop to learn about the Victorian wash day.  The boys were able to handle many old and original artefacts and then use them to recreate the wash day experience.  They scrubbed on washboards, grated the soap, used a dolly stick to move the washing around, tongs to pick it up, a mangle to squeeze the water out and irons to smooth the clothes.  They also crafted washing lines to bring back to school.  It was a fantastic way to learn about life in Victorian times.
