Last week saw our enthusiastic Year 3 and 4 boys from Buckingham Preparatory School, leave Pinner and head off for three days of adventure at the wonderful Hudnall Park, set in 85 acres of beautiful countryside. It was a fantastic opportunity for independent education outside the classroom, where they built teamwork, took on challenges, and made memories that will last a lifetime!
The fun began with a fascinating stream investigation. Our young scientists loved getting hands-on, using nets and magnifying glasses to discover all sorts of creatures and learn about the stream’s ecosystem – a brilliant example of learning by doing, which we value in our education at Buckingham Prep.
Later that day, the boys tried their hand at setting small mammal traps and then experienced the magic of fire lighting. Learning to use flint and steel to create a spark and build a small fire was a real highlight, fostering a sense of accomplishment and practical skills.
Thursday was all about adventure! The boys showed real courage on the zip line and low ropes course, developing their confidence and balance. The afternoon brought out their creative side as they made environmental art using natural materials, inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. They also worked together on team challenges, boosting their communication and cooperation. After a busy day, a movie night was the perfect way to relax.
Friday wrapped up the trip with more team games and an energetic den-building session in the woods. The boys’ creativity and teamwork were on full display as they constructed some impressive shelters.
As the coach headed back towards Harrow, the happy, if tired, faces said it all. It was a truly enriching few days, full of the kind of hands-on learning and outdoor experiences that are a key part of the independent education we offer our boys at Buckingham Preparatory School. A great trip for everyone involved!
