On a cloudy Thursday morning, Year 4 set off on an exciting trip to the National Poetry Library. After a short walk to Rayners Lane station, the boys took the tube to Waterloo and made their way to the Southbank Centre — where, coincidentally, the red carpet had been rolled out for the British Film Institute premieres!
At the library, the boys received a warm welcome from Lorraine and her team. They were divided into groups and took part in a range of engaging activities inspired by the poetry of Grace Nicholls. The sessions included listening to audio recordings, exploring creative language, and even finding poems that began with the first letter of their own names (thankfully, no one’s name began with X!).
Afterwards, the boys toured the Southbank Centre, enjoying spectacular balcony views of the Thames, Big Ben, the London Eye, and the Houses of Parliament. They visited the Clore Ballroom and wrote poetry inspired by their experiences of the day. Lunch was enjoyed outdoors on the balcony before the group made their way down to the river for one final look at the iconic London skyline.
The boys’ behaviour and enthusiasm were exemplary throughout the trip. It was a day filled with creativity, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the power of poetry.
