Buckingham Preparatory School was filled with excitement and energy as boys from Preschool to Year 6 took part in the annual STEM Day — a highlight of the summer term. Designed to promote creativity, collaboration and a love of learning, the day offered pupils the chance to explore a wide range of scientific ideas through hands-on challenges and investigations.
The day began with the school divided into house teams — David, Patrick, George and Andrew — with boys working together across year groups. Activities were run in a carousel format, allowing each group to experience every challenge. From generating electricity and launching rockets, to exploring the water cycle and experimenting with colour mixing through light, the boys engaged enthusiastically with each task.
Our youngest learners in Preschool and Reception worked together on age-appropriate activities, supported by their teachers. It was wonderful to see how naturally they collaborated, sharing discoveries and building confidence in a practical and playful setting. Clearly we have the world’s next top scientists right here in Pinner!
The day concluded with a whole-school science quiz, where house teams tested their knowledge in a fast-paced and lively competition. The atmosphere was electric, and the level of engagement reflected the enthusiasm the boys had shown throughout the day.
STEM Day is part of the school’s wider commitment to providing rich and varied learning experiences. Events like this help to prepare boys not only for academic success, but also to think critically, work collaboratively and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
